Losartan is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to help protect the kidneys from damage due to diabetes. It belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which work by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Losartan is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and an enlarged heart.
